Rays' Junior Caminero hit by pitch, leaves All-Star Game in pain

PHILADELPHIA — Rays slugger Junior Caminero’s second All-Star appearance came to an early and painful end Tuesday night. He left the game after being hit by a pitch in the third inning.
Caminero was hit on his left pinkie, going immediately to the ground in obvious pain, writhing and rolling to his side. He then jumped up and walked quickly into the dugout.
He was checked by Phillies team doctor Steven Cohen, and X-rays were negative. Caminero is considered day to day, but was said to be in good spirits in the American League clubhouse and obviously relieved.
Caminero was hit by a 97.6-mph sinker from Cardinals pitcher Riley O’Brien, a former Rays minor leaguer.
Caminero, 23, has obviously been a huge part of the Rays’ success, hitting .279 with 28 homers, 59 RBIs and a .927 OPS.
