PITTSBURGH — Following a rain delay that lasted nearly an hour and a half, the Pirates postponed Friday night’s series opener against the Milwaukee Brewers at PNC Park.

They will now play a doubleheader Saturday with the first game starting at 12:05 p.m., and the second scheduled for 4:05 p.m.

Friday’s game was slated to begin at 6:40 p.m. but was delayed 10 minutes because of inclement weather. The rain persisted, and at 8:10 p.m., the Pirates announced the postponement.

The scheduled postgame fireworks show commenced shortly thereafter, despite it still being light out. Sunset in Pittsburgh on Friday was 8:52 p.m.

Newly minted All-Star Braxton Ashcraft will start Game 1 of the doubleheader. Bubba Chandler will start Game 2 for the Pirates.

The Pirates did add bullpen reinforcements Friday afternoon, optioning Cam Sanders and Hunter Stratton to Triple-A Indianapolis while recalling Antwone Kelly and Thomas Harrington.

Harrington has yet to make his Pirates debut this season, and Kelly is in his second stint.
