WASHINGTON — Bryce Miller continued his masterful start to the season, Dominic Canzone continued to mash baseballs all over the field, and the Mariners routed the Washington Nationals, 10-2, in the opener of their weekend series Friday night in a weather-delayed game at Nationals Park.
Miller was simply dominant once again, completing eight innings for the first time in 79 career starts. He allowed two runs on two solo homers, with no walks and seven strikeouts on 91 pitches.
Canzone sparked a five-run second inning for the Mariners (37-34) when he blasted a two-run triple off the center-field wall.
Rookie Colt Emerson, in his 21st major league game, added his fifth home run on an elevated fastball from Nationals starter Zack Littell to make it 5-0.
Luke Raley’s sharp two-run single extended the lead to 8-1 in the eighth inning, and Canzone then belted his 10th homer of the season leading off the eighth inning to make it 9-1.
Josh Naylor hit his eighth home run in the ninth, and every Mariners starter had at least one hit as the M’s improved to 4-4 on this 10-game East Coast trip.
