MILWAUKEE — Logan Webb couldn’t quite complete his bid at history, but for the first time this season, Webb truly looked the part of an ace.

Webb took a perfect game into the sixth and a no-hitter into the seventh en route to delivering seven shutout innings in the Giants’ 1-0 win on Wednesday at American Family Field, allowing just one hit and one walk in his best outing of the season.

The Brewers threatened to tie the score in the bottom of the ninth by putting a runner on third with one out, but right-hander Keaton Winn recorded the game’s final two outs to record a five-out save.

Rookie outfielder Victor Bericoto accounted for San Francisco’s only run by hitting his first career home run in the top of the fourth inning, an opposite-field solo shot that landed in the Giants’ bullpen.

Webb began his night with five perfect innings, retiring the first 15 batters he faced with the help of excellent work from his defense.

In the bottom of the fourth, third baseman Matt Chapman, shaded towards shortstop, ranged to his right for a grounder then fired across the diamond as his momentum took him towards the third base dugout. The following inning, left fielder Casey Schmitt navigated the wall in foul territory to flag down an inning-ending fly out, giving Webb five perfect frames.

The two-time All-Star’s line was unblemished until the bottom of the sixth when he walked Sal Frelick to begin the inning. Still, Webb maintained his composure and retired the next three batters he faced to carry his no-hit bid into the seventh inning.

Webb lost his no-hitter when Brice Turang lined a one-out single into left field just beyond the outstretched reach of Chapman. Despite losing his shot at history, Webb retired the next two batters he faced to end his night on his own terms.

Webb was attempting to become the 11th Giants pitcher to throw a no-hitter since the franchise arrived San Francisco. Blake Snell threw the most recent one, on Aug. 2, 2024 against the Reds. Matt Cain pitched the franchise’s only perfect game on June 13, 2012 against the Astros.

The Giants’ bullpen nearly coughed up their 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth when left-hander Erik Miller allowed a single and a walk, putting runners on first and second with one out. With Milwaukee threatening, Winn entered and induced an inning-ending 5-3 double play with help from Chapman.
