ST. LOUIS — Rob Refsnyder launched a pinch-hit solo home run into the visitors’ bullpen in the top of the ninth inning, completing another Seattle Mariners comeback in a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

Refsnyder successfully challenged what was a strike three from home-plate umpire John Bacon to keep his at-bat alive. Bacon lost his first eight challenges of the game Saturday.

Four pitches later, Refsnyder belted a 3-2 sweeper from Cardinals lefty JoJo Romero for his second home run with the Mariners.

The Mariners (14-15) inched closer to .500 with their first road series sweep of the season. They had started the season 1-8 on the road.

Cal Raleigh hit his sixth homer of the season for the Mariners’ first run in the fourth inning.

Jose A. Ferrer picked up his first save for the M’s with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Cole Young continued his hot stretch with a broken-bat bloop single to right field in the seventh inning, driving in Connor Joe from second base to tie the score at 2-2.

The Cardinals had taken a 2-1 lead in the sixth inning when rookie left fielder Nathan Church turned on an Emerson Hancock changeup and sent it out to right field.

It was Church’s third homer in two games against the Mariners. He also robbed Mitch Garver of what would have been a home run Saturday.

Hancock tossed his fourth quality start (in six outings) to open the season, allowing two runs (on two solo homers) in six innings.
