From the Left

Mark Shields

Political commentator Mark Shields began his career as a campaign manager in 1968, when he helped to organize Robert F. Kennedy's campaign for the presidency. After heading up three more campaigns, he went on to join the editorial staff of the Washington Post in 1979, and begin his own column a year later.

Shields has been called "the wittiest political analyst around," and he continues to appear regularly on CNN, public television, and radio. His book "On the Campaign Trail" has been praised by reviewers and critics for its insightful look into the 1984 presidential race.

Today, Shields is a full-time political pundit and regular speaker at various events. He has also taught courses on American politics at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania. Shields can be seen regularly on CNN's "Capital Gang" and weekly on the "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer."
