Artist and reporter Signe Wilkinson became a cartoonist while working as a reporter, drawing caricatures of the people she was meant to be reporting on. Finding this to be a good mix of her opinions and her reporting style, she went on to attend the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine arts, and began working for the San Jose Mercury News in 1982. Three years later she went on to work for the Philadelphia Daily News, where she draws five comics a week. Wilkinson also draws for Organic Gardening Magazine, the Institute for Research on Higher Education, and many other varied publications. She won a Pulitzer in 1992, and her honors also include the 2002 and 2008 Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Awards and the Overseas Press Club Award in 1997, 2002, and 2006.
