Tales from the ArcaMax Chef

I walked out of the “boat store for people who can’t afford a boat” with my head hanging low. My dreams of cruising around with my honey in a fancy boat had been shattered. Instead, I would be bobbing around in the bay by myself, while all the other boaters pointed and laughed at my boring little boat.

As I walked around the corner of the building toward my truck, something caught my eye. It was a little skill type boat just like mine and it had been built out to look like a yacht. It had a center console, a steering wheel, all sorts of gadgets like depth finders and compasses and was topped off with a beautify bimini top.

I was stunned…it was exactly as I had imagined that my boat would look like. I walked around the boat a couple of times and checked out all the goodies. As I was looking a man walked up to me and said “She is a pretty little thing, isn’t she?”

I told this guy about my boat and how this was just how I wanted it to look and how nice this boat was and how much I wished my boat could look like this.

“Well, I built this boat”, the man said. “I can build yours to look even better than this one. Why don’t you come on in the shop and we will see what we can do.”

We went back inside and he started naming off the stuff I would want…center console with controls, nice steering wheel, depth finder, swivel seats, big bimini top, and on and one. Meanwhile, the first guy I had talked to puttered around the engines and cleaned up some spilled oil.

By, the second guy was so much nicer than the first guy. The second guy acted like he wanted me to be happy and money was no object…wait a minute…was this some type of planned scheme…? Bad boat guy-good boat guy? I began to wonder…

While you are having fun this weekend at the pool or cooking out please take time to remember the reason for this important holiday. Many brave men and women have given their all for this country to protect our freedoms and way of life. Please say a prayer for these men and women who gave so much for us without even knowing who most of us are.

God Bless America.
