Steph Curry reprises role of sixth man in Warriors victory over Kings

SAN FRANCISCO – The Warriors entered Tuesday night with only one objective: Make sure Steph Curry made it through his allotted 25 minutes against the woeful Kings.
Sure, they also wanted to win the game – they did that in an 110-105 victory over arguably the most dysfunctional franchise in American pro sports and snapped a four-game losing streak – but that had little effect on Golden State’s season.
The Warriors are all but locked into the No. 10 seed and will play either the Blazers or Clippers in the win-or-go-home play-in game.
Even though Kristaps Porzingis (knee) and Gui Santos (pelvis) were both ruled out, Golden State still got more than enough contributions from the rest of the roster.
Curry came off the bench for the second game in a row and scored 17 in 25 minutes. The Warriors trailed 97-95 when he checked in for the last time with 5:53 remaining in the fourth quarter.
he shot 5 of 12 from the field and made 4 of 11 from behind the arc. Curry connected on 4-point plays from each corner in the second quarter.
Meanwhile, De’Anthony Melton broke out of his slump and scored 20 points on an efficient 7 of 12 from the floor. Charles Bassey, a recent signing, scored a season-high 14 points off the bench while Gary Payton II put up 12 points and Pat Spencer scored 14. Brandin Podziemski put in 20 points.
The Kings also had the majority of their stars – Demar DeRozan, Russell Westbrook and Zach Lavine – out with various injuries. They got 17 points and eight rebounds from Stanford alum Maxime Raynaud.
The Warriors (37-42) have a day off before playing a back-to-back. Golden State plays host to the Lakers on Thursday for the team’s final regular season game at Chase Center, and then faces the Kings in Sacramento again on Friday before concluding the season in Inglewood on Sunday.
