You could have mentioned what species of whale you were talking about while it is true that some whale species eat the way you said and are referred to as baleen whales, others species are toothed whales. Gray, sei, right, grey and blue whales are baleen whales and eat these krill. The blue whale is of course the largest animal that has ever lived on Earth. The toothed whales includ the narwhal, sperm, and the dolphins and porpises (the Orca or killer whale being a member) all eat fish, and shellfish. The sperm whale, the largest member of this group also has been known to dive to 5,000 feet and even atack and eat giant squid. Some having been found with sucker marks on their bodies.
