ANAHEIM, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Angels reached a new milestone with their 6-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night.
At 43-33, they are 10 games over .500 for the first time this season. They hadn't been double-digits on the plus side of .500 since the end of the 2012 season.
The Angels have won all five games to start this six-game homestand, which concludes with a matinee against the Twins on Thursday.
The latest victory was mostly courtesy of Garrett Richards, who gave up two runs in 7 1/3 innings.
In five starts since Richards got knocked out in the first inning of a May 30 game at Oakland, he has allowed just four runs in 34 1/3 innings. He is 4-0 and the Angels have won all five games.
"I think after that Oakland start, it didn't take him but maybe 24 hours to regroup and get on a mission," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "Leading up to his next start after that game, there was no doubt about what he wanted to go out there and prove and show what he could do. And he did it."
Richards was not quite at his best in this game -- he walked five and gave up his first homer in a month -- but it was good enough.
"Garrett's stuff is electric and it's going to play," Scioscia said. "I don't think his breaking ball was maybe as much of a factor. He was behind in a lot of counts, but the ball was coming out hot. He could move it and I thought Garrett got some key outs when he needed them."
Offensively, the Angels did most of their damage in the first three innings.
In the bottom of the second, Erick Aybar and C.J. Cron had hits. Grant Green's sacrifice fly drove in one and Kole Calhoun's double knocked in two more.
In the third, Aybar's sacrifice fly and Howie Kendrick's two-out RBI single pushed the lead to 5-1.
In the eighth, Aybar singled, stole second and third, and scored on Cron's single, pushing the lead to four runs and allowing the Angels to use Mike Morin instead of closer Joe Smith for the ninth.
