TACOMA, Wash. (UPI) -- A toddler authorities say was tortured and
abused was hospitalized in serious condition Monday in Tacoma, Wash.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department said the 22-month-old boy was
brought to a local hospital Sunday by a woman in her mid-20s, KIRO-TV
in Seattle reported. The woman told authorities the child was dropped
off at her home with a diaper bag by an unknown male she described as
a gang member, the TV station said.
Doctors determined the boy showed signs of abuse and torture, KIRO-TV
said.
Pierce County Sheriff's Office spokesman Ed Troyer said the boy, whose
name may be Javon or something similar, was in protective custody at
the undisclosed hospital.
