FALMOUTH, Mass. (UPI) -- Police say a Red Sox fan attacked a man with
a baseball bat after a Fourth of July fireworks display because his
car had New York plates.
William Nestor, 29, was returning to his Long Island home with his
family when they became stuck in heavy traffic and then was confronted
by a group of hooligans, the New York Post reported Monday.
"They were yelling, 'Yankees! Yankees!' and 'F - - - New York' "
Nestor said. "When they saw the plates, they came at me.
One man carrying an aluminum bat, whom police identified as Robert
Correia, 20, allegedly whacked Nestor's head, body and arms. He was
taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.
Correia was soon located at a nearby apartment building and charged
with assault. Cops are looking for his alleged accomplices.
"I didn't even know the Yankees and Red Sox were playing," said
Nestor, acknowledging he is not a particularly big baseball fan.
