BAGHDAD (UPI) -- Several Iraqi employees in the British Embassy in
Baghdad have charged a culture of sexual harassment, abuse and
bullying exists in the facility.
One of the complainants, a middle-aged cleaner, told the Times of
London a British contractor with KBR, a private contractor hired to
maintain the embassy premises, offered to double her daily pay if she
would spend the night with him.
She said she refused and was subsequently fired.
The Iraqis accuse the embassy of leaving the abuse unchallenged and
failing adequately to respond to complaints against several British
managers for KBR. The company was allowed to conduct its own inquiry,
the paper said.
A British Foreign Office spokesman said the office is satisfied after
discussing the matter at length with KBR.
