Love Isn't

I remember the Love Is comic with fondness. View Masters, Hair Bear Bunch, and the Honey Comb Hideout, my good ole days. Love Isn't, is absolutely fitting for these days. Great stuff. Clipped all three.

love isn't ... hullaballoo update

From the Rockford Register Star Editor's blog
"Sometimes I just love a tempest in a teapot. Takes my mind off the serious issues I deal with everyday. Occasionally it’s fun to get all pseudo-excited about not much. So, when Jeremy’s parents took their clothes off in the Zits strip, well, I pulled it, sent nasty-grams to the syndicate and cartoonists.

Zits is back on Sunday.

OK, yes, I was sorta serious. Some of our readers were just nuts over naked cartoon characters and didn’t “get it” that the strip was riffing off the fat cherubs of “Love Is…” fame. But, really, as I told the syndicate rep, I just don’t have time for dumb stuff. Put the clothes back on."

From King Features response:
"To my knowledge, out of the 1,600+ newspapers that ZITS appears in, your readers are the only ones who have had such a problem with the depiction."
She still thinks it is Jeremy's parents. lmao

love isn't ...

just gave my local paper's editor an earful for pulling your love is parody.
here are the highlights of her explanation:
"I just pulled my favorite comic strip, Zits. And, it’ll stay pulled until creators Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman put some clothes back on Jeremy’s parents.
Seems Scott and Borgman ran out of sophisticated ideas and decided to riff on the tired, goofy, pudgy “Love Is…” cherubs with a series of strips titled “Love Isn’t…”
...
Not original, but, hey, doing a daily strip is hard work and not every idea is gonna be great. This one careened off the table to flat out dumb when they decided to take off the clothes of Jeremy’s parents."
lol, her favorite yet she doesn't know who the characters are.

I didn't think "ew - disgusting" I just don't get it! They obviously have their teenage heads (she had her ear triple-pierced)but bodies of children and discussing issues pertaining to teenagers. Can someone explain the connection between the text and the graphics???

I'm sorry, I found these strips different at first, but frankly they've grown on me. They're adorable, and certainly are not obscene. Just enjoy their sense of lightness and joy, while learning a lesson about the initial fumblings of young people in love.

I can't believe people still don't know what they're talking about and complaining like morons, even though we keep telling them, and Love is is about 30 years old. Go to gocomics .com and choose Love is from the choices and you will know wtf this has been a spoof of, since you didn't bother to read all the explanations people gave here. And byw, this has nothing to do with gay or gaybashing anything, so just shut up, idiot! Stop blaming Catholics too. It's the born again cult.

To: All the Complainers

One thing immediately comes to mind when I see your comments about how inappropriate and disgusting this strips is and how it's child porn in comic strip form: YOU GUYS ARE PERVERTS!

Seriously, if your mind is automatically going there when you see these strips it just shows how perverted you really are.

[It's kind of reminding me of those politicians that oppose rights for gays and then they're caught red-handed in a bathroom stall with a person of the same sex; they doth protest too much.]

I just miss seeing Jeremy wearing his usual purple shirt and size 18 tennis shoes, dealing with girls in a high school environment. I miss seeing him driving around with Pierce, now that he has his license.... I'm just wondering if this new "love isn't" has anything to do with his future relationship with Sarah. (Teenage boys aren't always as predictable as we'd like them to be....) And apparently, neither are Jerry Scott and Jim Borgman (the creators of the strip.) Maybe if we just stick it out for awhile and NOT think of "child porn" we can have everything back to normal for awhile?

Today's Comic

Keep that up. That maudlin cartoon was at the height of popularity in the schmaltzy '70's and the inspiration for that must have been the movie "Love Story" which started it all. Now it is hidden in the classifieds.

They make you want to vomit with their idiocy. This is actually what naked kids WOULD do, isn't it?

I have always enjoyed your comic strip, "ZITS." However, for the last three days you have presented two naked children in the "love isn't" theme. Please explain to me why you have to show naked children for this theme. Frankly, I am opposed to these drawings in the comic strip.

How sad it is to take a positive, beautifully scripted cartoon from some 35+ years ago and make it such a negative. The orginial "Love Is" author was a wonderful, loving wife who drew each of the cartoons for her husband who was dying of cancer. Soon after his death the cartoons stopped. Please respect where this was orginated and put the negative to sleep.
