I tried this "tip" many years ago. It may not get "clumpy" (does mascara get "clumpy" as the day goes on? my experience is that it may go on clumpy but if you separate your lashes while they're still wet they stay separated), but as the day goes on, the petroleum jelly starts to liquify and gets in your eyes, which is really uncomfortable. Don't bother.
