Britons fail to find 'Waldo' record
Martin Blackwell, organizer of the attempt in Great Yarmouth, England, said he hoped to break the record of 1,052 people dressed as Waldo -- known as Wally in Britain -- after selling 1,200 of the costumes online and in his book store, The Sun reported.
However, Blackwell said only 901 people donned the iconic red and white sweatshirt, stocking cap and black glasses for the record attempt Saturday.
Blackwell blamed the "disappointing" turnout on people who purchased his costumes to resell on eBay.
"It seems that some people saw a chance to make a killing and took it," he said.
The "Where's Waldo?" series of books, created by artist Martin Handford, features the eponymous character hidden among people and scenery with readers being challenged to locate the hero.
