Police seize wolf, say it might be a dog

AUSTIN, Minn. (UPI) -- Authorities in Minnesota said a seized animal that was sold as a wolf, but may actually be a dog, will be given a new home.

Austin Police said a city man purchased the animal, named Dakota, through Craigslist from an online seller who claimed the animal was a wolf. Authorities alerted to the animal by the purchaser's mother-in-law seized the animal because Mower County law forbids the keeping of a wolf as a pet, WCCO-TV, Minneapolis, reported.

However, some experts said Dakota does not appear to be a wolf, but rather a white German shepherd.

Police officials said Dakota is being turned over to an organization that has promised to find her a new home regardless of her heritage.

Officers said the purchaser is not being charged with a crime because he apparently did not know about the county law.

He isn't being charged.

Tge "wolf" is probably not a wolf, but a dog, which would be legal.

Yet they have taken the animal and will find a new home for it "regardless" of it's species.

At the VERY least, if it is proven to be a dog, he should be allowed to keep it.

Additionally, if it proves to be a dog, he should file suit against the seller, and the State should prosecute for false advertising &/or fraud.
