Man escapes injury under train
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey officials said the 32-year-old man, who appeared to be intoxicated, fell onto the tracks at about 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Pavonia PATH Station in Jersey City and rolled to the center of the tracks, The Jersey Journal, Jersey City, reported.
Steve Coleman, a Port Authority spokesman, said a train pulled into the station and three-quarters of the vehicle went over the spot where the man had last been seen.
Coleman said the man climbed out from under the train without a scratch when Port Authority police and Jersey City's Emergency Service Unit arrived at the station.
The spokesman said the man was checked out at Jersey City Medical Center and released.
"He is very lucky to be alive," Coleman said.
Police said the man was not charged with any offenses.
