Burglary suspect arrested in pink PJs

STUART, Fla. (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a suspected burglar was wearing women's pink pajamas at the time of his arrest in an apparent attempt to hide his earlier activities.

Investigators said residents at the Tierre Verde condominiums in Stuart told police they heard noises coming from above their bedroom ceiling at about 12:15 p.m. Monday and followed the sounds to a master bedroom closet, TCPalm.com reported.

"When the resident of the condominium opened the closet he saw a chair being lowered to the floor from the attic trap door in the ceiling," police said in a release. "The chair was attached to a cord which led to a tattooed arm coming out of the ceiling."

Officers arrived at the scene and discovered the burglar had apparently punched through firewalls dividing the attics of the condos and the path led them to Jacob Phillip Trofnoff, 31, who was staying in his mother's condo.

Police said Trofnoff was dressed in blood-stained pink pajamas when officers found him. Investigators said the suspect allegedly changed into the pajamas to hide the drywall and ceiling insulation on the clothes and the scratches on his back from roofing nails.

Investigators said they do not yet know how many condos Trofnoff allegedly may have burglarized. He was arrested and charged with burglary to an occupied dwelling, burglary to an unoccupied dwelling and other charges.
