Police: Burglary suspects flashed cash
Alaska State Troopers arrested 10 people this week in Selawik, the Anchorage Daily News reported. Selawik is a village of about 850 people at the mouth of the Selawik River in northwest Alaska.
The break-in occurred Friday night, police said, with the burglars doing about $500 in damage and making off with a large sum in cash. By Sunday, investigators had some good leads to follow.
"Troopers received reports of the stolen currency being displayed by individuals throughout the village of Selawik," police said in a statement Wednesday.
Most of the stolen money has been recovered.
Police said they made 10 arrests, with eight people facing second- or third-degree theft charges and two charged with possessing small amounts of marijuana. One of the theft suspects was also charged with bootlegging homebrewed liquor.
Police said alcohol may have contributed to the break-in.
