WARSAW, Poland (UPI) -- Krakow municipal police in southern Poland are
out in the streets to fine dog-walking citizens $210 each for failing
to pick up their dogs' poop.
In a campaign to keep the streets' sidewalks cleared of dog feces,
Krakow Mayor Jacek Majchrowski has formed a task force to tackle the
problem of removing about 13,200 pounds of that stuff each day.
The mayor's campaign added 100 special collecting trash bins to the
already existing 400 bins, in addition to handing out free poop bags
to dog owners, Poland's thenews.pl Web site said.
City officials say lazy dog owners, who repeatedly refuse to collect
droppings, would be taken to court to face a fine of $1,540.
