Keep Mosquitos Off
With warm weather comes the return of mosquitos. And despite their
size, these little pests cause people a lot of grief. Here are some
simple tips to keep them away this spring and summer.
-- Make sure any insect repellent you use contains DEET -- this is
safer for children and pets than non-DEET repellents.
-- Wear long sleeves and long pants outdoors when possible, and wear
socks to make sure your feet stay covered.
-- Spray your clothes with repellant, as well. Don't spray under any
clothing.
-- Peak mosquito-biting times are at dawn, dusk, and early evening.
Try to stay indoors at those times; if you do decide to go out, wear
repellent and protective clothing.
-- Empty out any containers where water may be stagnating, such as
buckets, bottles, or old tires -- be sure to check for containers
under plants or the house.
-- Empty out pet food dishes, swimming pool covers, birdbaths, and
other things that contain water at least once or twice a week. Clean
out any clogged gutters.
-- Work with others in your neigborhood to keep public places free of
stagnant water and other things that might attract mosquitos.
-- When you take your child outdoors, cover any infant carries with
mosquito netting.
-- Repair window and door screens. If you don't have them installed,
consider doing so.
