LONDON (UPI) -- An advertisement that showed a priest and nun on the
verge of a romantic moment has been banned from publications, a
British regulatory agency says.
The Advertising Standards Authority said the Antonio Federici Gelato
Italiano ice cream advertisement was banned as a result of the
questionable image of the two religious figures apparently
contemplating a kiss, The Times of London said Wednesday.
"We considered that the portrayal of the priest and nun in a
sexualized manner and the implication that they were considering
whether or not to give in to temptation, was likely to cause serious
offense to some readers," the agency said.
The advertisement, which appeared in Delicious magazine and
Sainsbury's Magazine, featured the priest and nun along with the
slogan "Kiss temptation."
The Times said Antonio Federici defended the advertisement, saying it
was intended to be an amusing take on Italian temptations.
