Did Helen know she was singing an anthem?

When asked about the unexpected impact she had on the women's liberation movement with her 1970s blockbuster song "I Am Woman," singer Helen Reddy admitted, "I certainly didn't hear it as a hit. I didn't hear it as an anthem."

Helen Reddy

Whew! I thought they were referring to Helen Keller and I thought for a moment "let me see, she was blind, deaf and dumb but she could probably not sing it very well".
But after finding out it was Helen Reddy...no, I disagree with her statement. That is way too modest! She sang that song with such a "gusto"... I "know that she knew" it was going to be an anthem for the Womens Liberation Movement.
