The Hollywood Exclusive: Ask Stacy
Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith
DEAR STACY: Whatever became of Judy Carne of "Laugh-In" fame? Is she
still with us? -- Jodie P., Cedar Rapids, Iowa
DEAR JODIE: Now 70 years old and living in her native England, Carne has lived through an incredibly tumultuous life -- including four marriages (the first a turbulent 1963-1965 union with Burt Reynolds), a 1978 car wreck that left her with a broken neck, heroin addiction and numerous encounters with the law. She wrote a tell-all book in 1985 -- "Laughing on the Outside, Crying on the Inside: the Bittersweet Saga of the Sock-It-To-Me Girl" -- and re-emerged for "Laugh-In's" 25th anniversary and Christmas show in 1993.
----
DEAR STACY: Please give some information about the girl that plays Adrian in "Secret Life of the American Teenager." She's the best one on the show. -- Gloria D., Dumont, N.J.
DEAR GLORIA: Los Angeles native Francia Raisa, 21, plays the brainy bad girl on that ABC Family series. She's also a standout in the big-screen "Bring it On: All Or Nothing" as the tough cheerleader Leti, and has been seen on such shows as "In Plain Sight" and "American Family: Journal of Dreams." Raisa's father is the top L.A. radio host known as El Cucuy -- Renan Almendarez Coello. She has two sisters. She was the girlfriend of 14-years-older "So You Think You Can Dance" choreographer Shane Sparks for three years, before calling it quits earlier this year. She began acting at age 16. Other credits include the feature "Over There," the Nickelodeon movie "Shredderman Rules," and ABC Family's "The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream." (She recently denied Internet rumors that she was dating her "Cutting Edge" leading man, Matt Lanter of "90210," saying they're just pals.) She's been taking dance classes for 16 years -- hula to hip-hop.
----
DEAR STACY: Is Damon Dash related to Stacey Dash, who used to be on "Clueless"? -- Rachel W., Reno, Nev.
DEAR RACHEL: The actress and the hip-hop mogul are cousins.
----
DEAR STACY: Is Alex Trebek married? Children? -- Grace I., Brooklyn, N.Y.
DEAR GRACE: Yes, the "Jeopardy!" host wed real estate businesswoman Jean Currivan in 1990 (his second marriage) and they have a son, Matthew, and daughter, Emily. Both are in their teens.
----
DEAR STACY: What's become of handsome Ben Barnes, who played Prince Caspian in "The Chronicles of Narnia" movie? -- Toni K., New York
DEAR TONI: He's been busy. He's due back as King Caspian in "Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader" in December 2010. He stars in a new adaptation of Oscar Wilde's "Dorian Gray," recently released in the U.K. (No U.S. release scheduled as yet.) This past May, he was seen in a limited release of "Easy Virtue" with Jessica Biel, Colin Firth and Kristin Scott Thomas.
----
DEAR STACY: Can you tell me how the actor and author Hill Harper got his unusual name? -- Tracy G., Freeport, NY
DEAR TRACY: Born Francis Harper, he adopted his mother's maiden name as his first name. The "CSI: NY" actor is the son of psychiatrist Harry Harper and anesthesiologist Marilyn Hill. Harper has an illustrious background including graduating from Harvard Law School, where he became friends with classmate Barack Obama, and earning a master's degree in public administration from Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Besides his popular books (the latest is "The Conversation"), his social-political involvement has included campaigning for his former classmate, and founding the Internet social network ForRealSolutions.com, on which users can brainstorm solutions to today's array of problems.
