Robert D. Novak

Political commentator and journalist Bob Novak left the University of Illinois in 1952 to become a full-time journalist after serving as a sportswriter for the student newspaper. He served with the U.S. Army in Korea, and served as a political correspondent for the Associated Press after the war. By 1961, he had become the Wall Street Journal's chief congressional correspondent.

Together with Rowland Evans, Novak created the Evans-Novak Political Report, which ran until Evans's death in 2001. Currently, Novak is syndicated by the Chicago Sun-Times. Despite being a registered Democrat, he has been termed a "paleoconservative" because of his more centrist views. He is also one of the many reporters mentioned in Timothy Crouse's book, The Boys on the Bus.
