Feds stand behind deadly Michigan raid
Luqman Ameen Abdullah, iman (leader of prayers) of Detroit's Masijid Al-Haqq mosque, was fatally shot in the Wednesday raid after opening fire on agents, Detroit Special Agent in Charge Andrew Arena said in a Detroit Free Press report Friday.
"I'm comfortable with what the agents did. They did what they had to do to protect themselves," Arena said.
Seven suspects arrested in the raid appeared in U.S. District Court in Detroit.
The suspects, who face charges ranging from conspiracy to commit federal crimes to conspiracy to receive and sell stolen goods, were identified as Abdulla Beard, 37; Garry Porter, 59; Muhammad Abdul Salaam, 45; Adam Ibraheem, 38; Abdul Saboor, 37; Acie Pusha, 27, and Ali Abdul Raqib, 57.
The Free Press said prosecutors warned the death of Abdullah could result in retribution from the imam's followers.
