I sympathize with you...however that hasn't stopped me from still enjoying fresh, locally-grown produce.
I just visit my local Farmers Markets on a regular basis to get some very delicious produce, which in many cases is organically grown, at reasonable prices, and is supporting local small farmers, instead of some mega-corporate industrial farm "machine."

I tried gardening and well, I could buy better produce at a better price in the stores. It was labor intensive, the plant parasites had a real feast, and although I am quite resourceful and independent and self sufficient, I'd starve to death if I had to provide my own sustenance ! It is a great idea, but it doesn't work for most people. Hell, I just killed my tomato plant that was full of blossoms. They all yellowed and died and only god knows why !
