Esther Cepeda / Politics

Born to immigrants from Ecuador and Mexico who came to Chicago seeking a better life, Esther Cepeda started out learning English by watching "Sesame Street" and reading newspapers. She began watching public affairs shows at a very young age, and went on to graduate with a degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University. After spending time as a grade school teacher, she began contributing columns to her local newspaper, eventually moving on to the Chicago Sun-Times as a reporter, then a columnist. In her work, Cepeda strives to make the Latino voice heard in political forums and nationwide newspapers.
