Staying Organized
Keeping schoolwork organized has always been frustrating for my son. Last year, we used a color coding system to make getting it all together a snap! Here's what we did:
First, we chose a color for each subject. Then we purchased binders, folders, and bookcovers in those colors. For example, math = red, English = green, science = yellow. Now it's very simple to grab what he needs on the run.
He also carries with him a set of magic markers (the kind that you can attach to a large split key ring.) He takes the ring with him throughout the schoolday, and on each handout paper, he draws a small line across the upper right corner with the color marker that matches the subject. Now, if his papers should get mixed up, it's easy to get them organized again.
This system worked great to improve his self-esteem and his grades because there were no more misplaced homework papers.
