But no one in their right mind would say that the democrats and liberals don't have their share as well. But the republicans are famous for saying that they aren't those things, when in fact, there are a large number of them, and they get caught, and then make a big scene about it.

The only way stuff like this will stop is when peers speak out, and refuse to accept it. It is good that he lost his job. I hope he suffers a long time for it, like a man in prison who commited a horrible crime. Which he did do. And when enough people stop doing such crimes because they don't want to pay the price, our young will stop learning to think in such sick and twisted ways. Then it will stop.

Myk There is a major difference between freedom of speech, and the verbal assualt, which is what you are confusing with freedom of speech. I can say what I want on here, but if I verbally assualt you, I will most likely be stopped. I know it is confusing, but look up the definitions, and the law.

I thought we were supposed to have free speech in this country. What kind of "free" speech is it when you can be PUNISHED for expressing a CONSTITUTIONALLY-LEGAL opinion or tasteless joke, EVEN if you do NOT work for government, and even if you express your personal opinion or tasteless joke when you are OFF-DUTY from your job?
"Free" speech in this country is a LIE! If you offend someone with actual POWER over you, whether they be in government, or in the private sector, you can be punished and lose your job . . . even if your "free" speech was NOT expressed while you were ON the job . . . and even if it had nothing to do WITH your job. Simply expressing un-popular opinions is NOT supposed to be a crime under the Constitution. Colleges and Universities, especially . . . which are supposed to be the BASTIONS of free speech . . . have, in a collective sense, become little more than the enforcers of politically-correct conformity.
So, here is MY expression of free speech: Michelle Obama IS ugly . . . and she DOES look like an ape, although I do not believe she is descended from one. If she IS . . . we ALL are. Does that statement make me a "Bigot". Is anyone going to try to make me lose MY job? Good luck trying! I work for myself. I have, many times, heard young black men make offensive comments about black women . . . comments which were FAR more offensive than the comment made by Mr. Depass. Why have'nt THEY lost THEIR jobs? Oh Gee! I forgot! They work for themselves too . . . selling drugs!

Rusty Depass just reminds us all of what is still seething underneath all the niceties the pc police have brought about. Political correctness is nice, when one wants to seem thoughtful and above discriminatory behavior, but it only serves to push feelings like his underground where they can fester until they boil over like they have with him. There is rascism in all parts of our country. I was a strong supporter of Obama in Minnesota and after the election talking to an older white lady. I made the comment "Wasn't that great" She responded she did not think so and that electing a black man was horrible. I responded "Oh, you are a rascist" She responded "I am not". After Vietnam for many years I had strong feelings against people from Asia and did not totally get over that feeling until I returned to vietnam and met my enemy. You can't get rid of rascism by passing laws, it takes imparting knowledge to people that all people are just people and no better or worse than any other person.

Situation ethics as the end justifying the means is certainly applicable here. What we need is a return to the teaching of Creationism and an assignation of the teaching of evolution to the proverbial circular file. Raise us all to the level of the "image of God" and we shall certainly see the common likeness
of Him in each other, regardless of skin color.

DID his punishment fit the crime??? Hell NO!! He deserves much more than what he got... and he WILL get much, much more when he faces our Lord/God soon and very soon....

While I will in no way support or defend racism, toward the Obamas or anyone else, I must take issue with two inferences that come forth in this editorial.
#1) No one has used the racism tack to the extent Barack Obama and his supporters have used it. Any criticism of Obama's words or actions is automatically branded as rampant racism, regardless of what is said or why, or the validity of such criticism.
#2) That any such racism is only the province of Republicans. True racism (at least toward Negroes) sprang from the South, which until recent times was the bastion of the Democratic party. I don't really believe that all those good Southern Democrats are now the standard bearers of racial tolerance. I grew up in Oklahoma, which a good portion of has been, and still is referred to as "Little Dixie"; and an area also known for "yellow dog Democrats", meaning someone who would vote for anyone, including a yellow dog, if he were running on the Democratic ticket.

Although I agree with the gist of your editorial, I felt compelled to contest the idea that racism follows any particular group or political party.
