The Chessmen of Mars
Edgar Rice Burroughs
Pierre-Joseph Proudhon is considered one of the first anarchist thinkers, and was in fact the first person to call himself an anarchist. He is most famous for his radical and seemingly contradictory views of art, property, and government. He lived in virtual poverty, writing and studying all his life, until he became the head of a commercial firm in Paris; after leaving this job, he had achieved some level of acclaim for his innovations. He died in 1865, after several years of ill health.
