Gas Prices -- Who's Getting Rich? Not Me!

Betty Starkey
While I was standing at the pump, watching the numbers rapidly spinning by, I wondered why gas prices were so low just a few years ago and why they are so high now. Yes, all the hoo-hah about "new gas facilities" and "advanced location technologies" and whatever else the gas companies can think up, just doesn't add up.

Think about it -- when you want to train a child or an animal to become used to a condition, you simply instill that condition for a period of time and finally they get used to it. The same application is being applied to the American public. Gas prices have "creeped" up gently over the last few years and what happened? We got used to it. But now things have changed a bit. Because gas prices are increasing so rapidly, so has everything else. We are now being forced to make choices with our dollars. That really isn't fair. Why do you ask? Well, let's explore this situation.

Here you have seen the profits made by oil companies lately? Well, it's truly mind boggling. We have never seen so many gas company executives become multi-millionaires as displayed with a little stock insider research. While we are trying to figure out how to cope with huge gas prices, how to get to work, how to pay one bill before another, simply how to pay for food, the riches the officers of the gas companies are compiling are staggering.

So what are we to do? We are a nation of survival. We have always overcome hardships and persevered no matter what the obstacle. Perhaps it's time to think about walking or bicycling rather than taking the family car. Maybe it's time to simply order over the Internet, rather than driving all over looking for an item. Maybe it's time to email your local Congressman or Senator asking what they are doing about this problem. We as a nation are a powerful entity. We have survived over the years and we will continue to do so.

So what do you think? Is it time to dust off those tennis shoes, grab a walking or hiking stick, and go the distance? It's your choice.
