Thomas Taylor attended school in London, and focused his studies on
mathematics and the classics. His work for the Society for the
Encouragement of Art enabled him to make many friends who would help
fund his publications of translations of Plato and Aristotle. He was
the first to translate these, and the Orphic fragments, into English,
and also wrote a great deal on the theory and history of these works.
In addition, he wrote several works of his own on mathematics and
philosophy.
