Oscar Fingal O'Flahertie Wills Wilde, long considered one of the
greatest British authors in history, was in fact born in Dublin. In
1854 he married Constance Lloyd, with whom he had two sons. He was
one of the leading personalities in the aesthetic movement, a move
towards a more artistic lifestyle. In 1895, Wilde was arrested and
tried for "gross indecency," which led to his imprisonment. Three
years after his release and self-imposed exile in 1897, he died of
cerebral menengitis, believed to have been contracted during his
imprisonment at Reading Gaol. His tomb in Paris is still visited
year-round by his numerous admirers.
