How Can I Serve Jesus with My Limited Time and Money?

By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: I really want to serve Jesus, but I don't know how I can. I'm a single mother with three children, and I just don't have any extra time. My church offers things like volunteer opportunities and mission trips, but I can't even dream of them. Does God understand why I can't serve Him? -- Mrs. D.R.

A: Did it ever occur to you that you're already serving God by being a good mother to your children? Few tasks are harder than raising a family (especially for single parents) -- but few are more important. Where would your children be without you?

Remember: God gave your children to you -- and He gave you to them. The Bible says, "Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him" (Psalm 127:3). Don't take this lightly! You may have a "congregation" of only three -- but take your responsibilities as a parent just as seriously as if you were pastor of a church or a missionary in a foreign land.

Why did He give them to you? One reason, of course, was to take care of their physical and emotional needs. Someday they'll grow up and leave home; will they be prepared for adulthood? Will they know how to do practical things like take care of their finances and avoid danger and make wise decisions? Ask God to help you teach them to be responsible adults.

But God also gave them to you so you could help them build a strong moral and spiritual foundation. Make sure of your own commitment to Christ -- and then ask Him to help you point your children to Jesus. It will be your greatest service.

Thank you! : )

Dear Rev Graham,

I just wanted to thank you for letting God work through you to touch so many lives. This answer touched mine in a very personal way. I am a widow of four small children and feel like I should be doing something bigger for God, but you have reminded me that what I am doing right now is big, and it is a place I need to be. And recently I have also been encouraged and you can share this with the single mom in this question, that the greatest gift a woman shared with me was her single mom raising them in the Christian faith all her siblings and her are thankful it.

Some days are hard and I am always thinking I should be doing more, but I know my children are learning who Jesus is, and knowing Him intimately, and by example that he forgives us all the time. : )
Thank you and May God continue to Bless You and all your Family. (I could listen to Anne all day)
Love in Christ,
Wendy
: ) Smile!!
PS. I am sharing this answer with my other single mom friends.

How Can I Serve God With Little Time And Resources

I completely agree with Pastor Graham in the fact that we can serve God in different even simple ways that might seem unimportant to us but very important to the Kingdom of God.

I have a close to home example, my Mother In-Law was converted from the Muslim faith to Christianity and she made sure her household converted with her and though she did nothing more than remain wholly comitted to serving God in her family and her church, it went a long way to profitting the Kingdom of God bcos today 3 out of her 11 children are pastors and the rest are devout christians raising the name of Jesus as high as in their ability.

So we can serve God by raising our children to become workers in the house of God and this takes only as much money as we are blessed with.

Dear Rev. Graham,

I thank God everyday for your life and for the great wisdom and vast kknowledge HE has given you spiritually.

Your answers to questions asked by various people really tells me how vast and wide the wisdom of GOD in CHRIST JESUS dwells upon you. Indeed Colosians 2:3 says that "in HIM lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge". No wonder 'you are a man of GOD'.

This great wisdom, knowledge and intelligence are what I have been seeking from the LORD in my daily walk with GOD in JESUS. My decisions in life concerning my nucleus and extended family members; my relationship with all that get in touch with me, that the glory of my GOD will be seen and HIS NAME be magnified in my life.

I can see this wisdom working in your life through CHRIST JESUS in GOD.

I love you for who you are - 'A MAN OF GOD!'

STAY BLESSED ALWAYS,

N
