Was I Saved by God or My Doctors?

By Billy Graham, Tribune Media Services
Q: I got a very serious infection when I went into the hospital for some surgery a few months ago, and I almost lost my life. Who saved me, God or my doctors? My wife says it was God, but what difference does it make? -- H.W.

A: Ultimately, our lives are in God's hands; even the next breath you take is a gift from Him. If He were to withdraw His hand from you, your life would end (despite the most strenuous efforts of your doctors). The Bible says it well: "When you take away their breath, they die and return to the dust" (Psalm 104:29).

What difference should this make to you? First, it should remind you of your dependence on God. All too often, we assume that our lives are in our own hands (or the hands of our doctors). But they aren't; they are in His hands. The Bible says, "No man has power over the wind to contain it; so no one has power over the day of his death"

(Ecclesiastes 8:8). A brush with death also should remind you that each day is a gift from God -- a gift to be used wisely and joyfully.

But this experience should remind you especially of an even greater truth: This life is not all, and someday you will enter eternity. Your letter suggests that so far in life you haven't given much thought to God. But perhaps one reason He's given you this extra time is so you will turn to Him before it's too late.

Thank God for sparing you -- but most of all, turn to Christ and open your heart and life to Him. Don't let another day go by without Him.

I really don't fully understand the comment before mine. Yes I believe God fully can and does heal us because I was healled of migraine headaches in Church by the power of God's people praying!. However, God also gave us doctors and modern equipment to help us. By all means pray, but if that doesn't seem to help, it could be that God wants you or your loved ones to be taken to the Dr. or Hospital to assist you further. Don't give up on your faith. Pray that God will guide the doctor's hands, for instance if you require surgery or emergency treatment of any kind. Doctors can't always save people physically but God can definetely save you spiritually. Jesus died and paid the penalty of our sins for that! Sometimes healing is by taking them Home to Heaven where God promises there will be no more pain or sorrow. If you're not sure if they're saved, pray first and foremost that God let them linger until they have accepted Christ as their Saviour. God can use our prayers and the doctors' ability.

God or Doctor

I read your comment on god or Doctor. God put the doctors here for a reason, and there ability. God plays a hand it it.if we didn,t have doctors the mortatiliy table would be a lot lower.
I also died on the table if the doctors ability haden't been there i would be Dead, god played a hand keeping me here also.
I am 57 years old, i have a friend that she quit taking Diallis because she said God is goin to hell her, her church says god is the power of healing.and if anybody ever belive she does.
I think everbody has a reason for being here, so if god, makes people well and its of faith, she will jump up anytime. I don't think so. PL
