Rule number one is look for all checks and captures. 1.Bxf7+ Nxf7 2.Ne6 Qb6 2...Qa5+ 3.Bd2 Qb6 4.a5 Qxb2 5.Bc3 Qb5 6.Nc7+ 3.a5 Qb4+ 4.c3 Qc4 5.Nc7+ Kd8 6.b3 and in both cases, the queen is lost. Always look for that f7 (or f2) weakness. It may not always be mate, but you can often win a lot of material.
