- Solution: If you picked 1.Nf7+ Rxf7 2.Bxf7 Bd7 you would win material, but it would take a while to reach victory and you would not be Alekhine! In 1908 he stunned Kohnlein with 1.Qxd6 Qxg2+ [taking the queen changes little: 1...cxd6 2.Nf7+ Kg8 3.Nxg5+ Kh8 4.Nf7+ Kg8 5.Nxd6+]2.Kxg2 cxd6 3.Nf7+ Kg8 4.Nxd6+ Kh8 5.Re7 and White is a piece up rather than the exchange up and has an overwhelming position.
