White to Play

Solution:
You had to notice the Black bishop’s role in this problem. Its movement to either e1 or d8 or f2 in response to White “tries” is key to there being only one solution. The key is 1.Rc5! Now, wherever the bishop moves, White mates next move. A very simple idea elegantly produced in a minimalist position. Composed by B.P. Barnes in 1961.
