Celebrity Travel: Go away with lovelytheband

By Jae-Ha Kim, Tribune Content Agency on

The indie pop group lovelytheband doesn’t do things the standard way. Vocalist Mitchy Collins and guitarist Jordan Greenwald began writing songs together and released a single prior to officially forming their group. “broken,” which was released before drummer Sam Price became a member, enjoyed a 76-week run, including the No. 1 spot, on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart. Based out of Los Angeles, the trio is promoting their latest single “i should be happy,” which touches on how difficult life can be, even when it seems that everything is going smoothly. lovelytheband stays in touch with fans on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/lovelytheband/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/lovelytheband) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/lovelytheband/).

Q. What is your favorite vacation destination?

Mitchy Collins: Hawaii. Experience all the food you can, and learn to surf, for sure.

Jordan Greenwald: One of my favorite trips I’ve ever been on was when the band was invited to Sir Richard Branson’s Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands. A pretty unforgettable few days.

Q. Where would you like to go that you have never been to before?

Sam Price: I would love to go to Japan. I’ve never been, but I’ve heard nothing but amazing things from friends who have been. Hopefully, we get to play over there soon. Oh, and also the Maldives, ‘cause how can you not put that down?

Q. Where have you traveled to that most reminded you of home?

Jordan Greenwald: Probably New York. It’s like my second home, because of family that live there. It is a lot like Los Angeles in a lot of ways, but then different in so many more ways, which makes it so fun to be in.

Q. What is your best and/or worst vacation memory?

Sam Price: I have so many great vacation memories, but if I could pick one, it was several years ago driving up from Los Angeles to Lake Tahoe in a minivan with my whole family and staying right on the lake for a couple days. One of my worst? There are bad moments, but I’ve never had a bad vacation, thankfully. Because at the end of the day you’re on vacation! What do you have to complain about?

Q. What is the most important thing you’ve learned from your travels?

Mitchy Collins: Experience things while you can, soak up the history, go sightseeing if you’re some place new and do the cheesy touristy stuff. It’s there for a reason.

Q. Where are your favorite weekend getaways?

Jordan Greenwald: Definitely the beach, if the weather is nice. I grew up close to Malibu, so it’s a nice sense of home.

Q. When you go away, what are some of your must-have items?

Sam Price: Sunscreen. Anywhere I go, I will be in some kind of outdoor body of water at some point, and your boy needs to be protected from those UV rays.

Q. What untapped destination should people know about?

Mitchy Collins: Brussels is absolutely beautiful and I think underrated.

Q. What was the first trip you took as a child?

Mitchy Collins: As far as I can remember, my first trip was to Disneyland with my family. It was so fun.

Q. Do you speak any foreign languages?

Jordan Greenwald: I don’t, but I know some phrases of a few different languages here and there. It’s just kind of necessary ones for when we are traveling. I did take Spanish for three years in high school, but I don’t remember much of it, so I guess I don’t pick them up as easy as the next guy.

Q. What is your guilty pleasure when you're on the road?

Sam Price: A box of Cheez-Its, some kind of chocolate and peanut butter candy and a nice sugary drink.

Q. If you could only pick one, would you choose a casual meal at a street cart or fine dining at a nice restaurant?

Mitchy Collins: I’m a sucker for a good steak, so most likely a fine dining restaurant.

Q. What kind of research do you do before you go away on a trip?

Sam Price: I like to research the food nearby wherever I’ll be staying. I’ll find one nice restaurant with amazing food for one of the last nights of the trip. I’ll also maybe look up some activities to do during the day.

Q. What are your five favorite cities?

Jordan Greenwald: New York City, London, Los Angeles, Dublin, Malibu.

Q. What would be your dream trip?

Sam Price: Some kind of island situation with the best food I’ll ever eat and some ziplining and jet skiing. With all my friends, of course.
