Celebrity Travel: Go Away With Siobhan Fahey of Shakespears Sister

By Jae-Ha Kim, Tribune Content Agency on

A. The first trip I remember (was) the first time I was on an airplane when the family flew to Germany. I was four. My dad was a soldier and we were posted to live there. We were there for five years in total, so I have a great fondness for the language. It sounds cozy to me, though I never learned it fluently.

Q. If you could only pick one place to eat, would you choose a casual meal at a street cart or fine dining at a nice restaurant?

A. Street cart for sure. I'm anything but a foodie, in fact, I find the obsession with food strange.

Q. Where are your favorite weekend getaways?

A. When in Los Angeles, I go to Joshua tree whenever I can. When in London, I go down to my sister's near Rye in East Sussex. Both cities are becoming too intense. I suspect it's a global trend -- overcrowded and stressful. Time to move out.

Q. If you've ever gone away for the holidays, which was the best trip?

A. I have had a couple of Christmases on the ski slopes, both in Vermont with my kids and my friends, and also in California with friends and my sons. Snow is so cozy, and skiing makes you hungry. Christmas songs and games as you hunker down around the fire in the evening -- it's my fave day of the year.

Q. Do you speak any foreign languages?

A. I can get by quite well in French and still have a smattering of German. I wish I spoke Spanish!

Q. What are your five favorite cities?

A. Mexico City, New Orleans, Rio, Sydney, Barcelona.

Q. Where have you traveled to that most reminded you of home?

A. Jamaica is surprisingly similar to Ireland.

Q. Where would you like to go that you have never been to before?

A. I would like to explore the Hawaiian (islands). I also would like to visit Darjeeling, Nepal, Kerala, Vietnam, Chile, Brazil, Bolivia, Peru and Puerto Rico.
