Celebrity Travel: Go Away With Ellington Ratliff

By Jae-Ha Kim, Tribune Content Agency on

R5 drummer Ellington Ratliff says traveling for leisure is something he'd like to do more of in the future. "I honestly don't vacation as much as I like, but while I'm on tour I get to see some sights in whichever city I'm in," says Ratliff, 25. "Some of my favorite cities are Lake Como, Barcelona. The musician resides in Southern California and stays in touch with fans on Twitter (https://twitter.com/ellington).

A. Our band manager once said that the key to traveling is patience and there is nothing more accurate than that, especially while going overseas where anything that could go wrong usually does about 50 percent of the time.

Q. Have you traveled to a place that stood out so much that you felt compelled to incorporate it into your work?

A. We're always gathering up stories on the road, especially in the nightlife aspect, because that's the main time when we get to hang out. So naturally we meet people, adventures ensue and songs are written.

Q. Where are your favorite weekend getaways?
