Celebrity Travel: Go Away With Marti Frederiksen

By Jae-Ha Kim, Tribune Media Services on

A. Shoot. With technology, as long as I can get airstream I can work anywhere. I like the bus thing. On a Foreigner record, I was doing a lot of mixing and recording and I did a lot of it on the bus. It was great fun. If you're an artist, you're thinking of the show you're about to do. Me? I'm like, "Let's get the work done." I'm more of an artist for the artist, so I'm always asking myself, "What can I do to help them?"

Q. Did your family travel much when you were a child?

A. No, we couldn't afford it. So the music business changed my life in that way. I started doing tours and got to see the United States and Europe. With Aerosmith, they've been everywhere and seen everything. But sometimes they can't get out, so they'll stay in their hotel rooms and never leave. It's hard when you're that recognizable.

Q. Where would you like to go that you have never been to before?

A. I'm hoping to go to Barbados one day soon.

Q. Street carts or fine dining?

A. If it looks good, I'll try it. I have an iron stomach, so I don't really care if it's street food or a nice restaurant. I've had great food at both. I had some really good Indian food in England. I had some delicious Cuban food in Key West. Every place has something that's worth giving a try.
