(UPI) Firefighters from three departments came together in Kansas to rescue a dog that wandered out onto the ice of a frozen river and fell through into the water.

Crews from Shawnee County Fire District #4-Dover and the Rossville Fire Department were summoned to the shore of the Kansas River near the Willard Bridge when a dog named Oskie ran out onto the ice while walking with her owners.

Oskie's owners said the canine ran about 20 to 30 feet out before falling through.

The crews arrived on the scene and contacted Mission Township Fire, which sent a crew experienced in water and ice rescues.

Dover Fire Chief Dirk Christian said the dog managed to climb onto an ice floe before firefighters arrived on the scene. She was in the river for about 45 minutes before safely arriving back on shore.
