(UPI) A California man said he and his family were doing laundry in their garage when their dogs alerted them to a mountain lion next to the dryer.

Sean Ishol said he initially thought his dogs were whimpering at a stuffed animal next to the dryer in the garage of his family's Lucerne Valley home, but he quickly noticed the cougar was looking back at the dogs and moving.

"The mountain lion did put its paw out to let them know 'Hey I'm here, I'm bigger than you, I will hurt you,'" Ishol told KABC-TV.

Ishol said he used a piece of PVC pipe to protect his wife as they slowly made their way out of the garage.

The father snapped a photo and shared it with a community news Facebook page while he called for animal control to come remove the animal.

California Fish & Wildlife officials took the mountain lion away. They said the female big cat was in poor health and the decision was made to have her euthanized.
