(UPI) New York's Metropolitan Transportation Authority said workers rescued a cat from the tracks at a Brooklyn subway station after weeks of hiding.

The MTA said the cat had been dodging workers at the station in Prospect Park, running every time someone attempted to retrieve it from the tracks.

Officials said the cat came dangerously close to the third rail while running from workers.

The MTA said a worker was able to corner and catch the cat Friday.

The feline was taken to Sean Casey's no kill shelter in Brooklyn.
