(UPI) India's largest auto manufacturing plant was shut down for 36 hours when a wild leopard wandered onto the premises and evaded capture attempts.

Forest officials said the leopard was spotted about 4 a.m. Wednesday by security guards on the grounds of the Maruti Suzuki factory in Manesar.

The plant was evacuated and shut down while about 100 forest officers and police searched for the big cat on the 600-acre campus.

The leopard evaded its pursuers and steered clear of traps baited with live goats and raw meat for about 36 hours.

The animal was spotted by officials monitoring CCTV cameras about 1:45 p.m. Friday and forest officials rushed to tranquilize and capture the leopard.

"We will examine the leopard's condition and then release it back to its natural habitat," senior forest official R. Anand said.
