(UPI) An Iowa woman put a unique spin on her wedding party by replacing traditional flower bouquets with rescue puppies.

Samantha Clark, 23, teamed up with AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport, which shared photos of Clark and her bridesmaids posing with the tiny puppies.

"Our puppies were in a wedding! They were the 'bouquets' held by the bridesmaids walking down the aisle," the rescue organization said. Congratulations Sammy Duckert and Kendel Clark!

Clark and her bridesmaids carried the puppies down the aisle to raise awareness that people should "adopt not shop" when looking for a new pet, KCCI reported.

Following the wedding, AHeinz57 pet rescue told Clark they received an influx of adoption applications.

"It was a really sweet way to bring raise awareness to rescue dogs," AHeinz57 owner Amy Heinz told The Des Moines Register.

Clark said the animal shelter was "totally on board," although she was initially worried they wouldn't be interested.

"I was worried they'd be skeptical but they were more than willing to help any way they could," she said. They were awesome.

The bride added her wedding guests were equally delighted by the stunt, which elicited gasps.

"I don't think anyone thought I was crazy enough to really go through with it," she said. Everyone loved it. You can't deny puppies.
